Prator earns Easter weekend victory

(4/12/2012)

The third race night of the 2012 season at 85 Speedway in Ennis gave drivers the chance to fight for checkered flags rather than Easter eggs.

Eddie Prator won his heat race and started in fourth place for the IMCA Southern Sportmod A-Main. By lap three, he was in the lead and took the checkered on lap 15. Keith Nolen finished second and Archie Whitt finished third.

Prator's win moved him from seventh place to tie second place in season points with William Kayser. Rickey Haney leads in points.

Jack Sartain started second in the IMCA Modified A-Main after winning his heat race. He took the lead on the first lap and maintained his position despite a few cautions and restarts. Sartain won his first A-Main of the season. Mike Hathcock and Charlie Upchurch finished second and third.

Sartain moved from eighth to fifth place in season points. Hathcock leads with Windle Gaston, Albert McCall and Upchurch tied for second.

After finishing second the previous weekend, Brian Sartain earned a victory Saturday by sweeping the Street Stock division. He won his heat race and started third in the A-Main. Leading every lap, Sartain made his way to victory lane with Will Garrison and Jackie Hefti following.

Sartain moved from seventh to tie third place with John Henry Smith in season points. Hefti leads with Garrison in second.

Jake Culver started fourth in the Bomber A-Main and made his way to the front on the first lap. Brian Marusak started eighth and moved to second place on lap eight. Culver took the checkered flag first after leading every lap. Culver was disqualified for having an underweight car, so Marusak was declared the winner. Tim Brewer finished in second and Bobby Hopgood finished third.

Marusak maintains second place in season points with Brewer still leading. Rodger Chaney moved up one position to take over third from David Woodcock.

Johnny Ashton won his second A-Main of the season in the Cruiser division. He started fifth and made his way to second place by lap eight. Dylan Fagan experienced problems, so Ashton took over the lead with two laps to go and earned himself another victory. Josh Brand and Brendon Harrison finished second and third.

With strong finishes the previous two weeks, Ashton maintains first place in season points with Fagan in second. Brand moved from fifth to take third place away from Gary Fitch.

The Junior Mini Stock A-Main was tough for Cade Fabian. Fabian started second, but made his way past Matthew Lunsford on lap one. After leading for eight laps, a mishap coming out of turn four sent Fabian head-on into the wall, thus bringing out the red flag. Despite a totaled car, Fabian climbed out safely. The race was called and Lunsford was declared the winner. Thomas Lunsford finished second and Troy Garrison finished third.

Thomas and Matthew Lunsford are both tied for first place in season points, taking the lead away from Justin Nabors. Fabian moved up one position to second.

The Texas Winged Modifieds raced at 85 Speedway for their first of five visits this season. Corbin Suggs took home an Easter weekend win. Steve Barton and David Suggs finished second and third. The Winged Modifieds will return the first weekend of every month through August.
