MOTHER NATURE TRIED TO STOP RACING AT DUNN HILL 2.

A brief shower during the qualifying events disrupted the racing.  That did not stop the track crew as they immediately got out and worked the track back into shape.  Racing resumed and the entire program was completed.
There was only one new winner that entered victory lane, but the action was exciting in all the divisions.  Due to the weather victory lanes were held at the end of the night racing program.

First feature event was the ever popular Pro Stock.  Hank Buchanan and Derrick Baldwin were first time visitors.  Hank was driving the sharp looking number 51 and Derrick was chauffeuring the Dave Roberts owned number 24.  Both car qualified for the feature event.  Buchanan did not have much luck his first time at the track as a mechanical  problem sent him to the pit area early.  Derrick did finish the event in the tenth postion.  The night belonged to Shannon Oswald who started in the front row.  Lee Vinson and Chad Ely did battle for the second position.  Ely was setting his sights on the top spot.  The evening ended early for the Ely machine as a mechanical problem sent him to the pit area early in the event.  As the lap wound down, Bobby Maynard was closing in on the Oswald machine.  Maynard was attempting to make a pass when he made contact with the Oswald machine.  Shannon lost control, Maynard gained the lead and Oswald recovered to hang on to the second position.  A caution came out and the track officials sent Maynard to the rear for rough driving.  Shannon managed to hang on for capture the win with Steve Sharpsteen in second, Lee Vinson in third, Josh Ames in fourth and working his way back to fifth was Bobby Maynard.

Factory Stock division was next to take on the Dunn Hill 2 track.  Ken Evans was on hand for the first time of the season.  The early race leader was Donny Burgess who has been driving the number 01 for the past couple of weeks.  The caution played into the hands of Stan Matthews who started in the rear of the field.  On of those cautions was for the Evans machine as a left rear wheel problem forced him out of the event.  As the race came to a close it was the battle between Burgess and Matthews that had the fans on their feet.  They raced side by side for more than a lap, but Stan was able to overtake Donny to capture the win.  Following Stan across the finish line was Donny Burgess, Dale Ostrander, Freddie Peters and Victor Colavito.

IMCA Style Modified division took to the track for their feature event.  Don Cole and Bruce Tinsley paced the field to the green flag.  They battled for the top spot for a couple of laps, with Don taking the lead.  Coming from the back of the pack was previous feature winners Ed Sites and JT McKernan.  Both drivers worked their way to the front, without the help of any cautions.  Harry Ely had taken the top spot away from Don Cole, but Sites was closing in on the Ely machine.  Eddie captured the lead, but Ely didn't let him get away.  He stayed within reach, but the laps wound down not giving Harry a chance to take back the lead.  Caution free the win went to Eddie Sites, with Harry Ely in second, JT McKernan, Ray McClure and Don Cole rounding out the top five.

Front Wheel Drive class was next to show off their talents for the feature event.  Mike Hodle and Tyler Belcher brought the seventeen car field to the green flag.  These drivers were racing three and four wide going into the first and second turns.  When the dust cleared it was Kenny Underwood with the early lead.  Following Kenny was the number 46 Ford Fiestiva of David Fink.  Behind the top two the competitors were still shuffling for position.  Current point leader Marcus Wood was right in the mix of the action working his way to the front.  Coming from mid pack was Mike Ely who was patient found his way to the top spot.  He took the lead away from Underwood and Fink who were battling hard.  The other competitor who had to work his way to the front was Kurtis Benjamin who started in 14th position.  Kurtis had his hands full as most of the other racers were doing whatever they could to not let him by.  With Ely in the lead Marcus Wood and Kenny Underwood worked their way around the Fink machine.  They battled for the second position, racing side by side for several laps.  When the checkers flew on this event it was Mike Ely making his first visit to the Dunn Hill 2 victory lane.  Rounding out the top five were Marcus Wood, Kenny Underwood, David Fink and Kurtis Benjamin.

The Mini Stock division was the final feature event for the evening.  Tim Bush and Ed Navone made up the front row and took the green.  Bush and Navone battled for the lead, but it was JR Bush who got around both cars and took the early lead in the event.  The car on the move was the 00x of Gregg Turner who returned to the speedway after missing most of the racing season.  Turner worked at another race facility on Friday nights and was not able to compete at Dunn Hill 2.  Lady luck was not shining down on the Turner race machine as he and Ed Navone became hooked together.  A caution came out as, they had to disconnect both cars and each driver was able to continue.  It was evident that Turner was the driver to beat.  As the race resumed it was Shane Brown and JR Bush who were battling for the win.  These two drivers swapped the lead, until Brown was able to make the pass and keep it.  Meanwhile Turner came from the rear to close in on Doug Colton.  The past couple of weeks for Colton have found him driving other cars due to mechanical problems in his number 36.  When the checkers fell on the event, Shane Brown recorded another feature win, with JR Bush in second, Doug Colton in third, Gregg Turner rebounded for fourth and John McAdam rounded out the top five.  Mike Ziarno was in the top five, but was giving last as he did not pass post race tech.

One more great night of racing on the hill.  Hats off the Mark Spencer Jr., and his entire track crew for keeping a great racing surface for the teams and fans.  Coming up this Friday night is "MEET THE DRIVERS NIGHT".  Fans will be able to meet their favorite drivers on the track, get autographs and have pictures taken with them.  Race teams are encouraged to bring goodies to share with the fans.  A regular show for all divisions will be the nights program.  For more information please contact the track website at www.dunnhill2speedway.com.
