REPEAT WINNERS IN ALL DIVISIONS AT DUNN HILL 2 SPEEDWAY
Sixty one cars filled the pit area with 19 of them in the popular front wheel drive division. The racing action was exciting with each division having a repeat winner.
Mini stocks were the first division up for the feature lineup. Regular competitor Doug Colton had to start in the rear of the field as he was driving the 14x for the event. Doug's number 36 developed a serious mechanical problem during the qualifying event. John McAdam had control of the event early on after taking the lead from Mike Navone. With three laps left Navone brought out the caution with a flat right rear tire. Mike was hoping that he could hold on to finish the event. That tightened up the field giving Shane Brown who had worked his way to the front and was attempting to challenge the McAdam machine. When the green restarted the final three laps Brown worked the inside trying to accomplish taking away the win. Unfortunately for Shane the laps ran out and he had to settle for second position. It was John Mc Adam bringing home the win. Finishing in third was Ben Hulslander who came over to congratulated McAdam on his win. Fourth was James Kriedler, and rounding out the top five was Ed Navone. Two of the competitors who originally finished in the top five were found not to be within techinical specifications during the post race inspection.
Pro Stocks came to the track with Wednesday nights feature winner Gene Sharpsteen hoping to capture win number two. The battle began with the start of the race as the top five with Shannon Oswald, Chad Ely, Brad Butcher and Ernie Martin all hoping to capture the top position. That ended quickly for Ernie Martin as his number M13 came to a halt on the inside of turn one with flames coming from underneath. That ended the night for this driver who stated he thought it was a problem with the rear end. Gene Sharpsteen was working his way throught the field and made it into the top five. A flat right front tire sent him to the pit area, but was able to return to finish the feature event. Shannon Oswald had control of the feature event until a tire problem also sent him to the pit area. This gave the lead to Chad Ely would was able to keep the lead. Brad Butcher ran the high side of the track trying to take away that lead from Ely, but Chad's luck was on his side. Chad recorded win number 4, with Brad Butcher in second, Bobby Maynard in third, Lee Vinson in fourth and Wayne Baldwin in fifth.
Factory stocks made their way on to the racing surface. Each week a couple more cars come to this division. Donny Burgess was driving the number 01 for the event. The race belonged to Stan Matthews who held off the challenges of Donny Burgess. Donny had to work his way back through the field as he spun early in the ten lap race. Unfortunately Burgess could not take away for victory from Matthews. Stan stated that he had lost his front brakes during the race. It was not a good night for last weeks feature winner Freddie Peters. His car was not working as well as it did the week before. Matthews recorded the win with Burgess in second, Dale Ostrander, Victor Colavito and Don Weiland rounding out the top five.
IMCA Style Modifieds were up next. Mike Koser made his initial appearance in a brand new mod. He was working the bugs out of the number X machine. The green flag fell and it was JT McKernan taking the lead as he battled with Harry Ely and Sonny Terry. Something went sour in the Ely machine as he took the car to the pits early in the event. The current points leader in this division Eddie Sites was making his way through the field. He had his sights set on the McKernan machine with the hopes to take away the lead. Once again these two drivers battled hard with JT McKernan coming out on top. Sites had to settle for second, great run for Sonny Terry in third, Ray McClure finished in fourth and Jason Sullivan recorded a great fifth place finish.
Final race of the evening was the Front Wheel Drive division. Late in the season this class has been growing as several cars have come to try out the Dunn Hill 2 oval. Nineteen cars took the green flag and within a couple of laps it was Tony Belcher in a new car taking the lead. Belcher had the lead throughout the feature event coming across the finish line in first. In a post race inspection the Belcher machine was found not in compliance with the rules. The win was taken away. This gave the win to Kurtis Benjamin who came from deep in the field to finish in second. Benjamin had to hold off the hard charging Chris Conrad who would be credited with second.. This was Conrad's first visit to the speedway and had the fans standing on their feet as he drove his number 6 on two wheels during the event. Current points leader Marcus Wood finished in third. Rounding out the top five were Josh Benjamin and Rick Sinsbaugh.
