CAR COUNTS KEEP GROWING AT DUNN HILL 2 SPEEDWAY!

With potential rains in the area some the of other tracks cancelled their racing programs.  This provided many new faces racing this past Friday night.  Sixty four competitors filled the pit area, and the action was as hot as the temperature.

IMCA style modifeds had 13 cars take the green flag.  This guaranteed the nights feature would take home $500 for the win.  It was Sonny Terry and Ray McClure that paced the field.  It was McClure who captured the lead for the first eight laps.  The caution flew for Shawn Bruce and Brad Weaver.  On the restart JT McKernan took the top spot.  Making moves through the field was Eddie Sites, with newcomers Scott Bennentt and Mark Griffin.  JT opened a lead on the field until the closing laps.  Eddie Sites was pacing himself trying to get closer to the McKernan machine.  One last caution tighten up the field, allowing the Sites machine one last chance for the win.  Eddie made his move in turns one and two on the inside to take back the lead.  JT battled back within inches but could not set up the move to make the pass for the win.  Eddie Sites picked up win number 4 of the season over JT McKernan.  Scott Bennett, Mark Griffin and Brad Weaver rounded out the top five.

Front Wheel Drive class had 15 competitors all looking to compete for the checkers.  After a couple of weeks of bad luck it was current point leader Marcus Wood back in victory lane.  The battle behind the Wood machine was fierce with all the top runners trying to catch the Wood number 42H.  Newcomer Tyler Deeghan lost a right rear wheel off the 11D which ended his night early.  Former feature winner Kenny Underwood did not have lady luck on his side this week as a flat tire sent him to the pit area early in the event.  Kenny Benjamin III and Andy Dorman battled back and forth for the second position.  When the checkers flew it was Wood who came home in first.  Second went to Kenny Benjamin III, third to Andy Dorman, fourth to Tony Belcher and fifth to Tyler Belcher.

Factory stock class the past couple of weeks has had a winner change after post race inspections.  Brad Butcher celebrated in victory lane.  Unfortunately Brad did not get the win, after going to the tech lane.  Rich Sharpsteen captured the win in the number 9X.  Finishing in second was the J16 of Tim Perham a good run for this gentleman.  The Stan Matthews machine suffered some damage in an early race accident.  Lady luck has not been kind to this team over the past couple of weeks.

Mini stock feature was filled with caution flags, but the racing action was strong.  Everyone one was racing for the same outcome to capture the checkered flag.  The finishing order in this division also changed some after a post race inspection.  It was an emotional first time win for Tim Bush who started deep in the field.  He worked his way to the front and the caution flags helped to keep the field tighten up.  Bush took the lead early in the event, with John McAdam taking it away for a short time.  Doug Colton was behind the wheel of the Jack Andrus owned number 19.  Doug also lead the feature event.  It appeared that the Doug would be finding victory lane until lap 14 when the engine exploded on the machine.  This gave the lead back to the Bush machine and he held off the late race charge from Shane Brown to record his first win.  Rounding out the top five were Shane Brown, John McAdam, Billy Groover and Mike Navone.

Seventeen Pro Stocks were on hand with each of them looking to find the fast way to the checkers and victory lane.  Leading the field to the green were Ed Hulslander and Jeremiah Clonch.  Jeremiah took control of the feature event until lap 9.  The 3 of Shannon Oswald took the lead by making a pass on the high side of the 15C of Clonch.  The battle for the second position between Rich Sharpsteen and Clonch was a fierce one.  Sharpsteen did get by in the closing laps.  Tough break for Bobby Maynard who had been making his way to the front when a mechanical problem sent him to the pit area.  When the checkers fell it was Oswald recording the win, with Rich Sharpsteen in second.  A great run for Josh Ames who recorded an impressive third place finish.  Rounding out the top five were Jeremiah Clonch in fourth and Dave Roberts in fifth.
