The Lamar Racing Club, May Meeting.
May 4, 2010
The regular monthly meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Kelley Morris at the Ports to Plains Restaurant. He thanked all of the members for coming. On the agenda for Old Business; April work Days, Advertising Committee report, Charter membership program, May 1 race. New business; Track Report, May work days, Lamar days Parade, Car Show, May15th Race, Competition Committee.
The Treasurer’s report was given by Daina Morris. The minutes to the last meeting were read by Daina and were approved and accepted as read. Kelley gave special thanks to Don Woller, Raymond Dechant and Fred Elliot for working everyday during the two weeks before the race to get the track ready for Opening Nights Races. OLD BUSINESS; Don Woller gave a report on the April work days. A lot more help needed to show up for the work days. He said that there may be a sub moisture problem that is causing a small soft spot in the track between turns #3and #4. He will be working on that problem. There is more work that is needed on the water truck. There are bee’s that are living in one of the legs of the announcer’s booth. There was a good, light hearted discussion about bees. Justen Beakly said that there are about 80 pounds of them that have lived in there a long time. He and a friend that knows about bees have a plan to trap the bees. He assured us that the bees won’t be a problem and that they don’t have to be destroyed. The restrooms at the race track froze and the plumbing and fixtures had to be replaced. The cost for that work was $1000.00 and has to be paid. The Advertising committee report was given by Kelley and Heather Morris. There were ten signs sold with three that Nick Carter is still working on. Nine more signs have to be sold. Kelley said that if anyone knew of someone that might need a sign and needed help talking to them, let him know and he will help. There are still trophy sponsors needed and ads in the programs for Ambulance Service. Kelley Morris gave a report on the May 1st race. Everything went real well. 291 people sat in the stands. There were a lot of remarks about the cold, but the sound system seems to be the major complaint. There were quite a few people in the crowd that haven’t been to a race in a while; it was encouraging to see them out on a less than perfect night. Everyone was paid at the race track and the sprint car guys left happy. A lot of credit and thanks go to Ron Cook, Russ Anderson, and all of the track volunteers for doing such a good job with the races. The signs on the sign fence will be moved to the back of the bleachers, where they can be seen better. Discussions turned to the May 15th race. The cabled off area in the parking lot for the handicapped was discussed and the club voted to charge $10.00 per car plus $10.00 per person to park there, unless it has a blue handicap sticker. A sign not allowing coolers in the grandstand area will be put up. Some work at the pit gate will be done. Saturday May 15 is also the Lamar Days Parade. We need to get as many cars as possible to be in the parade with a banner to promote the race and the Speedway that night. It is also an excellent way for drivers to promote themselves and their sponsors. Kelley Named the Competition Committee; Mod-Joey Shoup, Stock-Brian Morris, Hobby-Jay Forbes, Econos-Neil Mauch, Truck Keith Nidey, Mini- BJ Graves. Upcoming Events are; Opening Night in Goodland Kansas May 8, Opening Night in Colby Kansas, Mothers Day - May 9, There were no new discussion and the meeting was adjourned.
