Lamar Speedway To Reopen For 2010 Season

(2/25/2010)

Exciting news for dirt track racing in south east Colorado

Lamar, Colorado (January 10, 2010)  Lamar Speedway in Lamar, CO reopens its gates to dirt stock car racing for the 2010 season and beyond.  Lamar Speedway is a 1/3 mile semi high bank race track orginally built by the Dechant family of Lamar in 1987 and was run successfully by several diffrent promoters until 1996.  The track laid vacant until 2005 when it was converted into a motocross facility. With the extensive dirt work that was done, the track became almost unrecognizable for auto racing.

The huge task of bringing this racetrack back to its glory days has been taken on by a group from the area that are reforming the Lamar Racing Club (LRC), an organization that also has laid dorment for 13 years.  LRC plans to run a full summer schedule with IMCA Sancioned Modifieds, Super Stocks, and Hobby Stocks.  Additional classes will be Hobby Trucks, Econos, Mini Stocks and the crowd favorite Anything Goes. Special events are also being planned with the URSS Sprints, BST Modifieds, and possibly Late Models.

To follow the Lamar Racing Club and see pictures of the reconstruction of the Lamar Speedway go to the clubs website www.lamarracingclub.com.

LRC hopes you will come join us and enjoy dirt track racing in S.E. Colorado at its best.
