Update to Wendy's Grand American Modified 100 Lap Classic
In a completely positive turn of events the I-25 Speedway Wendy’s Grand American Modified 100 Lap Classic just became more attractive. “We’ve had a few area businesses come on board with this events to make the purse that much more appealing, with contributions totaling slightly over an additional $2,000.00, all of which will be going straight into the drivers purse money!” said Perry White, Co-Owner of I-25 Speedway
“We want drivers, local, regional, and national of possible to participate,” continued White. “Wendy’s of Southern Colorado came on board at the beginning of the year as the primary sponsor for this event, and they decided that their contribution would go towards the winning driver. This is great for the winner, a $1,500.00 paycheck at the end of the night. We also wanted to make sure the already-enhanced purse structure got a little heavier, from top to bottom, so we asked and a few businesses stepped up with contributions. Currently we have a minimum of $150.00 to start.”
Co-sponsoring this September 19th event are USA Performance Engines, Sports Radio The Homer 1350AM, All Star Exteriors, Screened Effects, Transmission Clinic, Eggimann Enterprises, and Pioneer Sand Company Inc.
Additionally there will be a Hard Charger Award with a minimum of $200.00, compliments of Hoosier Tires/Smiley’s Racing Products and I-25 Speedway.
Not all contributions have come in the form of cold, hard cash. In an arrangement with Clear Channel Communications, the recently flagged “The Homer 1350AM” sports radio show will become involved with this inaugural event, providing additional advertising leading into this race as well as opportunities for listeners to win tickets to the race.
As an added measure to ensure all those who will compete are ready for the big race, I-25 Speedway has opened its gates to those wishing to conduct hot laps the Friday night (Sept. 18th) before.
“We’ll have tires and fuel at the ready for those who want to tune to the track,” said Randel White, co-owner of I-25 Speedway. “It’s a fast surface. With 23 degrees of banking in the turns and parabolic shaped straightaways, the speeds are simply incredible. Horsepower is a must, but the setup is equally important; we’ve had countless instances of three-wide racing in the corners this year. We expect nothing different for this race.”
Drivers must remember they are required to run the Hoosier 880 tire and methyl-alcohol fuel is not allowed. The gates will open at 3PM on Friday September 18th for those wishing to get some time on the track surface. The cost is $15.00 per person for the hotlap session.
