THE EVENT

POCOLA, OK (August 26th, 2017) – The thirteenth points race of the season at the legendary Tri-State Speedway saw three first-time winners with two others repeating their feats. Mother Nature was everyone’s friend this previous week with cooler than normal temperatures and plenty of time for the new track management to extensively prep the track after a few weeks off.

The pre-race ceremonies for the 9th Annual Tillman Evans Memorial Races and $1,500 to win 100 lap Enduro kicked off at 7:50 PM with a brief history about the late Tillman Evans. The invocation by Creyson Hoover followed, as well as the playing of the National Anthem while a few parade laps, led by Tillman’s grandson, Ty Evans.

Heat race lineups for all classes were determined by the driver’s draw at sign in. The classes advanced to their features via their finish in their heats. Plus, the last heat winner in each class drew a number for the number of cars to invert for the A Feature.

At intermission, everyone had a chance to grab themselves some of the great food items from the concession including some beans and cornbread or hot links and an ice-cold Coca-Cola 20 oz. product to wash it all down with. The every-popular funnel cakes made a return, also. Fans also had an opportunity to stop by the T-shirt booth and pick up some new track shirts by Kevin with Cuztom Graphics that were sale priced at two for only $20. The 50/50 drawing saw a winner take home $143.

TOP THREE

The Pure Stock A Feature was on the track first after intermission and saw former track champion, Chris Perkins (88 – Rudy, AR) return to Tri-State and claim his first win of the season. Jimmy Waltman (8R – Fort Gibson, OK) finished in second ahead of Jalen Brewton (41B- Van Buren, AR). This is a new trial class that ran this weekend and will run again at the Spooker.

The Factory Stock, previously known this season as Pure Stock, A Feature was next and saw Jacob Cox (99 – Pocola, OK) spin early in the race and come back through the field for his first win of the season. Second place point driver, Adam Gipson (20 – Lavaca, AR), took home second place as Austin Farnam (119 – Fort Smith) finished in third.

The third A Feature on the track was for the USRA B-Mods. Kevin Guinn (788 – Fayetteville, AR) went to Victory Lane for the third time this season as point leader, Lonny Flanagan (7 – Rudy, AR) took home second place over Chad Summerford (03 – Centerton, AR).

The next race was the Super Stock A Feature. Jason Miles (503 – Glenwood, AR) captured his first win of the season at Tri-State Speedway. Kyle Slader (19S – Muskogee, OK) crossed the finish line in second ahead of Dylan Davlin (26D – Shady Point, OK). Randy Moses, Sr. (75M – Muskogee, OK) remains the class point leader just nine points to the good.

The USRA Modifieds took to the high banks next for their A Feature. Kyle Ledford (75 – Greenwood, AR) was able to pick up his second win of the season over Tate Cole (89 – Muskogee, OK). George Martin (15 – Fort Smith, AR) repeated his previous performance with a third-place finish. The class point lead remains with Trevor Latham (27L – Rogers, AR).

The last race of the night was for the 100 lap, $1,500 to win Enduro. The 40+ minute event saw Brian Scroggins (Wagoner, OK) cross the finish line ahead of Tom Paulson (Spiro, OK) and Jeremy Wilson (KS). Wilson also picked up the added money from Tom Pinkerton Garage, in Cedarville, AR, for the longest tow.
