MARION CENTER SPEEDWAY August 8, 2015 Double Features for the Steel-Blk. Late Models

Marion Center Speedway made up the R. D. Shaffer Well Services Steel Block Limited Late Model feature that was rained out back on May 30 Saturday night; giving that division double features for Integra Racing Shocks Night. The other divisions were racing as well for a full night of excitement at “The Thrill on the Hill.” The results from the night of racing are:
Doug Eck from Corry tore up the track of Marion Center Speedway Saturday night and if the race would have went on longer he may have lapped the field of the Lias Tire Super Late Models. Eck started on the outside pole and took the lead at the start of the twenty-five lap feature. Eck then led the whole way to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. When the checkers flew the finish consisted of: 1) Doug Eck, 2) Doug Glessner, 3) Rich Gardner, 4) Andrew Gordon, 5) John Myers, 6) Dave Blazavich, 7) Tommy Beck, 8)Andy Boozel, 9) Rod Phillips, 10) Bob Dorman, 11) Billy Eash, 12) Jerry Redden and 13) was John Wayne Weaver who didn’t start the feature. Lias Tire Super Late Model heats were won by John Myers and Dave Blazavich.
The R. D. Shaffer Well Services Steel Block Limited Late Models had double features to make up an earlier rainout. In the first round of racing Cheyenne Reed of Punxsutawney made his way back to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle after fighting his way through to the front of the line. Jason Fosnaught from Tarentum took the lead of the twenty-lap feature from the start, driving under the KB 1 number on his car instead of his own number 24 and was doing well at keeping the lead from Dan Smeal of Houtzdale. Then past the halfway point, Cheyenne Reed made his move and past the second place Smeal and a couple laps later took over the lead from Fosnaught. Once in front, Reed kept the lead to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. The official finish has: 1) Cheyenne Reed, 2) Dan Smeal, 3) Jason Fosnaught, 4) Tom Jobe, 5) Frank Brocious, 6) George Dixon, Jr., 7) Mike Williams, 8) Zach Snyder, 9) Tom Shaffer, 10) Sam Gindlesperger.
Later that evening there was the regular night’s program feature for the R. D. Shaffer Well Services Steel Block Limited Late Models. In the second feature it was George Dixon, Jr. from Hesson who took control of the race. Dixon started on the outside pole and never let up to maintain the lead for the entire twenty lap feature and gain entry to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. Dan Boyd of Bellwood started on the pole and chased Dixon lap after lap to try and get the front position of the race but had to settle for second at the checkers. The finish of the R. D. Shaffer Well Services Steel Block Limited Late Model’s Feature consisted of: 1) George Dixon, Jr., 2) Dan Boyd, 3) Jason Fosnaught, 4) Dan Smeal, 5) Tom Shaffer, 6) Adam Nixon, 7) Andy Burns, 8) Mike Butterworth, 9) Mike Williams, 10) Tom Jobe. The R. D. Shaffer Well Service Steel Block Limited Late Model heat races were won by George Dixon, Jr. and Jason Fosnaught.
The Huey Brothers, Inc. Crate Late Model feature (CARS – Crate American Racing Series) was won by Mike Laughard from Twin Rocks for his first victory of the season. Laughard started on the pole and led every lap to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. Corey Neal of Trade City started beside Laughard and followed him around the track for the twenty lap feature but never was able to make the pass for the lead and took second. The final results are 1) Mike Laughard, 2) Corey Neal, 3) Wendell Pinckney, 4) David Lyon, 5) Dave Blazavich, 6) Ken Schaltenbrand, 7) Matt Bassaro, 8) Patrick Waugh, 9) Stephanie Ivory –dnf, 10) Andrew Koenig-dnf. In the Huey Brothers, Inc. Crate Late Model heat race it was Dave Blazavich picking up the win.
Nate Smith of Glen Campbell made his first appearance at Marion Center Speedway this season a memorable one by winning the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock Feature for Integra Racing Shocks Night. Smith started on the outside pole and took the lead at drop of the green flag. From there it was all Smith with the others working their way up to try and challenge him. Ray Hickok, Jr. of Commodore made his way to the front to try and take the lead but had to settle for second. When the checkered flags flew the finish consisted of 1) Nate Smith, 2) Ray Hickok, Jr., 3) Matt Hugill, 4) Jeff Sweeney, 5) Gary Furman, Jr., 6) Collin Burke, 7) Rich Waltman, 8) Tony Iarrapino, 9) Stan Riggle. In the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock heat race the winner was Ray Hickok, Jr.
Jim Hamilton of Coalport won his first feature of the season in the Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock division. Hamilton started on the pole but was overtaken by Chris Hickok at the start of the race who in the outside pole position. Hickok was leading the fifteen lap feature when a caution came out for a collision on the track. While the yellow lights were on, Hickok made a pit stop and was back out on track to take the green again in plenty of time but failed to realize that pit stop lost him the lead and put him at the tail end of the race. Hickok used the remaining four laps of the race to try and recover but it wasn’t enough time. Hamilton who was following Hickok the entire time took over the lead and won the feature. The results were finalized after a post race surprise inspection that delayed Bryce Bergreen’s presentation of the checkers to the winner. Bryce won the honor through a Marion Center Speedway Kid’s Club poster contest. The final results are: 1) Jim Hamilton, 2) Nick Fulmer, 3) Nick Erskine, 4) Gary Stitt, 5) Kenny Haight, 6) Dillon Smith, 7) Rich Waltman, Jr., 8) Duke Davidson, 9) Chris Hickok, 10) Larry Brewer. The Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock heat races were won by Nick Fulmer and Chris Hickok.
The Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4/6 Cylinders feature was won by Jack Mumau from East Run giving him five victories this season at Marion Center Speedway. Mumau was busy chasing down the leader from the pole position start of Wild Bill Hassenplug from Gallitzin and had just taken the lead when a caution came out that was charged to the leader Hassenplug, setting up a green/white/checker finish for the Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4/6 Cylinders. Mumau was able to keep the lead for the final laps of the feature for another trip to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. The final results for the Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4/6 Cylinder feature: 1) Jack Mumau, 2) Michael Phillipson, 3) Robert Lydic, 4) Wild Bill Hassenplug, 5) Jamie Noel, 6) Tanner Lansberry, 7) Colton Clark, 8) Matthew Sander, 9) John Costa, 10) Jesse Laughard. Wild Bill Hassenplug won a heat race for the Butler Auto Supplies Cylinders and Brandon Pease won the other heat.
Next Saturday night Marion Center Speedway will have a Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock Special race and the R. D. Shaffer Well Services Steel Block Limited Late Model Special in addition to the regular racing program. But before that all starts at 7:30 there will be a Marion Center Speedway Kid’s Club party from 2 to 4 in the afternoon and then later during intermission of the stock car races there will be Kid’s Bike Race Championships!
