MARION CENTER SPEEDWAY August 1, 2015 Double Features for the Crate Late Models Huey Brothers Night

(8/2/2015)

The Huey Brothers, Inc. Crate Late Models had double features Saturday night at Marion Center Speedway to make up for the previously rained out feature on May 30 which was appropriate for the Huey Brothers, Inc. Night at the Races.  Lias Tire Racing Division gave away two tires to a Crate American Racer Series (CARS) driver.  The winners were selected in a random drawing by a MCS Kid’s Club member and Mike Ott and Stephanie Ivory received certificates redeemable for the tires.  All the other five divisions also ran a regular program and there were Kid’s Bike Races at intermission.  The results from the night of racing are:
Rich Gardner from Waterford took the Lias Tire Super Late Model Feature Saturday night with a clean sweep of all twenty-five laps.  Gardner started on the outside pole and took the lead from pole sitter, Shawn Claar at the drop of the green flag.  Shawn Claar dropped in behind Gardner trying to regain the lead but Gardner was well on his way to victory putting cars a lap down in the process.  When the checkered flags were thrown it was 1) Rich Gardner, 2) Shawn Claar, 3) Rod Phillips, 4) Doug Eck, 5) Dave Blazavich, 6) Wally Fox, 7) Joe Petyak, 8) John Myers, 9) Billy Eash, 10) Andrew Gordon, 11) John Wayne Weaver, 12) Jerry Redden, 13) Bob Sheesley.  The Lias Tire Super Late Model heat races were won by Dave Blazavich and Shawn Claar.
The Huey Brothers, Inc. Crate Late Model make up feature from the May 30 rainout was a runaway for Joe Martin from Ringgold.  Martin started on the pole and led every lap to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle.  Mike Laughard of Twin Rocks was Martin’s closest competition and settled for second place at the checkers with Corey Neal squeezing by Dave Blazavich at the end for third place.  The official finish is 1) Joe Martin, 2) Mike Laughard, 3) Corey Neal, 4) Dave Blazavich, 5) Wendell Pinckney, 6) Ken Schaltenbrand, 7) Jeremy Shaffer, 8) Rich Logan, Jr., 9) Mike Ott, 10) Patrick Waugh-dnf, 11) Matt Bassaro-dnf, 12) Stephanie Ivory – dnf.

The second feature for the Huey Brothers, Inc. Crate Late Models was nearly a back to back victory for Joe Martin.  Martin came on strong to challenge Dave Blazavich who had been leading the entire race from starting on the pole and through all twenty laps.  Martin made a last lap charge that nearly took Blazavich out of the Winner’s Circle, but Blazavich was able to hang on to the lead to finish in first place.  The outcome of the Huey Brother’s Inc. Crate Late Model feature for August 1 was:  1) Dave Blazavich, 2) Joe Martin, 3) Mike Laughard, 4) Ken Schaltenbrand, 5) Rich Logan, Jr., 6) Corey Neal, 7) Jeremy Shaffer, 8) Wendell Pinckney, 9) Mike Ott, 10) Matt Bassaro, 11) Stephanie Ivory – dnf, 12) Patrick Waugh – dnf.  Winning the Huey Brothers, Inc.
