MARION CENTER SPEEDWAY July 11, 2015 Super Late Model & Crate Late Model Special

(7/24/2015)

Marion Center Speedway continued to celebrate our nation’s independence from England with a Super Late Model and Crate Late Model 30 lap feature for each and the purse increased to $1500 to win for the Super Lates and $1000 to win the Crate Lates.  Plus MCS was making up a rained out feature from May 30 for the Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4/6 Cylinders giving that division Double Features and the Street and Strictly Stocks were also racing.  All divisions were racing for double points and Kid’s Bike Races were held at intermission- Here’s what happened on the track:
Marion Center Speedway was the hot spot for first time visitor to the track, Bobby Rohrer from Waterford.  Rohrer came in to take his chances at walking away with $1500 in his pocket for winning the 30 lap special feature for the Lias Tire Super Late Models; and he accomplished just that.  Rohrer started on the outside pole position and took the lead when the green flag flew to start the race over Dan Swartzlander from Sarver who had the pole position.  Once in the lead Rohrer never let anyone else lead the race to make the trip to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle to collect his trophy and top prize money of $1500 for winning the race.  Rich Gardner also from Waterford, started right behind Rohrer and followed him across the finish line for second place.  Then another newcomer, Rick Singleton of Huntington, took third place at the checkers by maintaining his third place starting position with Mike Blose of New Bethlehem right behind him in fourth place.  Dane Laraway of Harrison City was fifth and Top point man going into the Saturday night race, Billy Eash was sixth.  Here’s the results of the Marion Center Speedway Independence Day Blowout Finale with the Lias Tire Super Late Models:  1) Bobby Rohrer, 2) Rich Gardner, 3) Rick Singleton, 4) Mike Blose, 5) Dane Laraway, 6) Billy Eash, 7) Doug Glessner, 8) Gary Lyle, 9) Joe Petyak, 10) Rod Phillips, 11) John Myers, 12) Dave Blazavich, 13) Doug Eck, 14) Andrew Gordon, 15) Levi Sikora, 16) Greg Beach, 17) Bob Sheesley, 18) Ken Schaltenbrand, 19) Dan Swartzlander, 20) John Wayne Weaver, 21)Dwayne Tanneyhill, 22) Shawn Claar,  23) Joe Campbell, 24) Bob Dorman, 25) John Britsky.  Tom Shaffer wasn’t able to compete in the feature.  The Lias Tire Super Late Model heat race winners were Mike Blose, Bobby Rohrer and Rich Gardner.
The Huey Brothers Inc. Crate Late Models also had a big jackpot for the winner of their 30 lap special feature Saturday night.  The winner of the $1000 top prize money was Joe Martin from Ringgold.  Martin started on the outside pole and led every lap to take home the big money and trophy for the Crate Late Model Special presented in the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle.  Wyatt Scott from Garland finished second to Martin by following the leader from start to finish.  Wendell Pinckney was the third place finisher from Albion, and Corey Neal of Trade City was fourth.  Andrew Satterlee made a recovery from what appeared to be a blown engine in the heat races for a fifth place finish in the feature.  Here are the final results of the Huey Brothers Inc. Crate Late Model special feature:  1) Joe Martin, 2) Wyatt Scott, 3) Wendell Pinckney, 4) Corey Neal, 5) Andrew Satterlee, 6) Mike Laughard, 7) Chris Frank, 8) Brad McGinnis, 9) Jeremy Shaffer, 10) Rich Logan, 11) George Dixon, Jr., 12) Stephanie Ivory, 13) Matt Bassaro, 14) Bryan Benton, 15) Dave Blazavich.  Joe Martin and Dave Blazavich won the Huey Bros. Crate Late Model heat races.  American Racer and Lias Tire gave away a racing tire by random drawing of the Crate drivers and Rich Logan , Jr. was the lucky winner of the racing tire.
The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks raced for double points Saturday night at Marion Center Speedway and getting the top points for the feature was Joey Zambotti.  Zambotti from Kittanning won his second feature this season in his division by starting sixth and working hard to move into first place then keep it.  Gary Furman, Jr. of New Alexandria was the leader of the first lap after starting third, but a missing car for the pole position moved him up to the front row.  Jeff Sweeney moved up a row also and then he took it upon himself to better that position and finished the feature in second place.  Here’s the way they crossed the finish line:  1) Joey Zambotti, 2) Jeff Sweeney, 3) Ray Hickok, Jr., 4) Brett Bingaman, 5) Gary Furman, Jr., 6) Ryan Sager, 7) Stan Riggle, 8) Rich Waltman, 9)Andy Burns, 10) Bob Burns, 11) Tony Iarrapino.  Allen English did not start the feature.  The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock heat races were won by Ray Hickok, Jr. and Brett Bingaman.
The Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock Feature was led all the way from green to checkers by Chris Hickok of Commodore.  From Pole Position start to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle, Hickok was unstoppable.  Nick Fulmer tried to catch and pass Hickok, but it wasn’t to happen Saturday night at MCS.  Craig Fox split the two Fulmers for third place and Gary Fulmer was fourth.  The final results are: 1)Chris Hickok, 2) Nick Fulmer, 3) Craig Fox, 4) Gary Fulmer, 5) Dustin Gray, 6) Dillon Smith, 7) Gary Stitt, 8) Ryan Caldwell, 9) Brian Mills, 10) Jim Decker, 11) Nick Erskine, 12) Jim Hamilton, 13) Tyler Wagner, 14) Walt Henry, 15) Rich Waltman, Jr., 16) George Brinker.  Kenny Haight wasn’t able to run in the feature.  The Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock heats were won by Nick Erskine and Nick Fulmer.
The Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4 / 6 Cylinders had double features to make up for the one rained out on May 30 earlier this year.  The make up feature was first of the two to be run and Jack Mumau came up from behind- from sixth place to challenge the leader Craig Decker for the front spot.  Decker held off Mumau for the first four laps, then Mumau made the pass to take the lead for good.  Mumau won the Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4 & 6 Cylinder feature with Decker finishing in second and Andy Proper was third.  Here’s the results from race:  1) Jack Mumau, 2) Craig Decker, 3) Andy Proper, 4) Aaron Luzier, 5)David Lowe, 6)Robert Lydic,              7) Tanner Lansberry.   Later in the evening the Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4 / 6 Cylinder’s second feature was held and won by David Lowe after a controversial finish.  Lowe had been leading the entire race but on the final time out of turn four, the race back to the checkers included some bumping that resulted in the second place car Michael Phillipson getting ahead of the leader David Lowe.  Phillipson crossed the finish line first but Lowe was awarded the first place finish because of Phillipson’s driving tactics.  Both drivers stopped under the flag stand after the race to see who the winner was and Phillipson said if the officials gave him the win he wouldn’t accept it because Lowe led the entire race and Phillipson had bumped him out of the lead on that final turn too roughly to just call racing.  The final results are:  1) David Lowe, 2) Michael Phillipson, 3) Aaron Luzier, 4) Andy Proper, 5) Jesse Laughard, 6) Craig Decker, 7) Robert Lydic, 8) Tanner Lansberry and the previous feature winner, Jack Mumau wasn’t able to start the second feature.  The Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4 & 6 Cylinder heat race was won by Jack Mumau.
Next Saturday, July 18 will be Fan Appreciation Night with all six divisions back in action and racing for double points.  July 25 is the ULMS Super Late Model Special paying $2000 to win.  The racing program will also include the Willow Farm Campground Strictly Socks and the Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4/6 Cylinders Plus the Dave & Belle Thrill on the Hill Dash.  There’s a whole lot more information and news relating to the upcoming season on the website:  marioncenterspeedway.net, or you can follow us on facebook, or catch up on twitter or the blog with what’s happening.
