MARION CENTER SPEEDWAY June 6, 2015 W. G. Satterlee Night Street Stock Special

(7/24/2015)

It was W. G. Satterlee & Sons Night at Marion Center Speedway Saturday night and the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks ran for double points and an increased purse.  Plus after last weeks shortened program due to rain, Marion Center Speedway started making up the features that didn’t get to run Saturday night.  This week the Lias Tire Super Late Models had double features which provided 50 laps of Super Late Model racing and some excitement as well.  The other divisions also ran for a total of seven features and Kids’ Bike Races.
In the first of the two features for the Lias Super Late Models, Devin Friese from Chambersburg started on the outside pole and took the lead at the start of the twenty-five lap feature over Rod Phillips who had the pole position.  Friese was out in front with Ken Schaltenbrand of Sarver on his tail.  After the third lap, Dave Blazavich, racing in the back of the pack from starting in 17Th position out of 19 cars, started to slide coming off turn four.  When the 18B got sideways it started to barrel roll down the front stretch.  Three complete revolutions the car rolled down the t rack coming to a stop facing the audience. Blazavich immediately waved to the fans and staff that he was not injured bringing a round of applause from the crowd and much relief to everyone.  When the race resumed, it was hot and heavy with Friese leading the way and Schaltenbrand on his tail and Wally Fox not far back keeping pressure on the leaders.  Then just before the halfway point of the feature, it looked like Schaltenbrand had made his move going from turn one to two, when after Schaltenbrand passes Friese, Friese pulls into the infield off turn two out of the race.  Schaltenbrand took over the lead and kept it the whole way to the checkered flags.  Here are the results of the Lias Super Late Model feature: 1. Ken Schaltenbrand 2. Wally Fox  3. Shawn Claar  4. John Britsky  5. Billy Eash  6. Dane Laraway  7. Andrew Gordon  8. Clate Copeman  9. Dan Lee  10. Levi Sikora  11. Josh Jacoby  12. Devin Friese  13. Mike Blose  14. Rod Phillips  15. Doug Glessner  16.  Dan Swartzlander  17. Jerry Redden  18. Dave Blazavich.
In the second feature of the night for the Lias Super Late Models which was the regular night’s program, once again Devin Friese was up in the front of the pack.  Mike Blose from New Bethlehem had started on the pole with Friese in the second row after the pair had won their respective heat races.  Blose was leading the feature when in the sixth lap a caution stopped the progress of the race.  Blose was able to hold off Friese for one more lap after the restart but then Devin Friese took over the lead the whole way to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle.  Blose kept the race exciting, pressuring Friese the rest of the feature.  Here are the results for the second Lias Super Late Model feature of the night: 1. Devin Friese, 2. Mike Blose, 3. Andrew Gordon, 4. Doug Glessner, 5. Rod Phillips, 6. Billy Eash, 7. Clate Copeman, 8. Shawn Claar, 9. Dane Laraway, 10. Ken Schaltenbrand, 11. Jerry Redden, 12. Wally Fox, 13. Levi Sikora, 14. Dan Lee, 15. Josh Jacoby, 16. Dan Swartzlander, 17. John Britsky.  Heats: Blose and Friese.
Tom Shaffer from Punxsutawney swept the feature for the R. D. Well Services Steel Block Limited Late Models.  Shaffer started in first place and ended in the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle despite the efforts of Cheyenne Reed also from Punxsy who started beside Shaffer and Frank Brocious who finished a close second to Shaffer.  After a caution early on in the twenty lap feature, Reed went off into the pits.  Here’s the finish for the R. D. Shaffer Well Services Steel Block Late Models:  1. Tom Shaffer, 2. Frank Brocious, 3.Zach Snyder, 4. Greg Beach, 5. Paul Ivory, 6. Mike Williams, 7.Adam Nixon, 8. Dustin Maines, 9. Cheyenne Reed, 10. Tom Jobe, 11.Steve Scaife, Jr., 12. Dave Buchanan.  Heats: Snyder and Beach.
The Huey Brothers Inc. Crate Late Model feature had an interesting turn of events at the end of the race.  Wendell Pinckney from Albion was leading the feature from start to what he thought would be the finish.  Andrew Satterlee from Rochester Mills was anxious to get back into the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle and was racing hard from starting fifth.  Satterlee worked his way up to challenge Pinckney for the lead and raced side by side and dodged to inside and tried the outside, but Pinckney always recovered to maintain the lead.  Then on the final lap when everyone was expecting the checkers, the yellow flag came out for leaders coming together in turn two.  Andrew Satterlee was charged with the caution sending him to the back of the pack.  The following restart put Dave Blazavich right beside the leader Pinckney and Blazavich got the jump on Pinckney and took the lead for the Green/White/ Checker finish.  Here’s how they finished:  1.Dave Blazavich,  2. Wendell Pinckney, 3. Corey Neal, 4. Matt Bassaro, 5. Mike Laughard, 6. Andrew Satterlee,              7. Stephanie Ivory.  Heat: Dave Blazavich.
The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock Special was dominated by Tim Bish from Ringgold.  Bish started on the pole and led every lap to be victorious in the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle.  Joey Zambotti from Kittanning moved up from sixth to challenge Bish at times in the twenty lap feature but couldn’t get around Bish and Settled for second.  Another big mover in the race was Ray Hickok, Jr. from Commodore coming up from ninth of the ten car field to take third place.  Here’s how they finished for the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock feature:  1. Tim Bish, 2. Joey Zambotti, 3. Ray Hickok, Jr., 4. Jeff Sweeney, 5. Andy Burns, 6. Stan Riggle, 7. Rich Waltman,       8. Bill Phillips, Jr., 9. Brett Bingaman, 10. Gary Furman, Jr..  Heat: Tim Bish.
Rich Waltman, Jr. was all set to win the Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock feature Saturday night but the cards weren’t quite right for him.  Waltman led the first 10 of the fifteen lap feature and then in a racing incident on the back stretch, Waltman is involved in and charged with a caution that takes the leader out of the front row and put in the back of the pack.  This results in Nick Fulmer of Marion Center getting the lead and Jon Lee from Mahaffey taking second place.  The Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock feature results are:  1. Nick Fulmer, 2. Jon Lee, 3. Jim Hamilton, 4. Nick Erskine, 5. Chris Hickok, 6. Ryan Caldwell, 7. Dalton Gustusson, 8. Gary Fulmer, 9.Jim Decker, 10. Craig Fox, 11. Rich Waltman, Jr. 12. Kenny Haight, 13. Larry Brewer, 14. Tyler Wagner, 15. Duke Davidson, 16. Brandon Lansberry, 17. Gary Stitt, 18. Jim Hixon, 19. Dustin Gray, 20. Dillon Smith.  Willow Farm Campground heat race winners: Rich Waltman, Jr. and Chris Hickok.
Zach Wissinger picked up his first career victory in the Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 6 & 4 Cylinder Division.  Wissinger led the entire twelve lap race flag to flag but in a little different way.  When the cars were brought out on the track they were immediately sent down the front stretch out of the turn one pit gate.  This put the cars going the “wrong way” on the track.  The cars were raced going clockwise instead of the usual counter clockwise rotation.  This was to show that the cars weren’t “set up” for the track as they are supposed to be just off the street without modifications.  The new direction didn’t work out for Robert Lydic of Rochester Mills as he was going to the back stretch at the start of the race his car starts to go sideways and ends up rolling over on the track.  Lydic was uninjured in the incident, but the car was severely damaged.  The results of the Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4 & 6 Cylinder feature:  1. Zach Wissinger, 2. Wild Bill Hassenplug, 3. Mike Potter, 4. Tanner Lansberry, 5. Michael Phillipson, 6.Josh Gray, 7. Robert Lydic.  Heat race: Robert Lydic.
Marion Center Speedway is scheduled to have double features Saturday June 13 for the R. D. Shaffer Well Services Steel Block Limited Late Models and the Butler Auto Supplies Front Wheel Drive 4 & 6 Cylinders.  That will leave the two remaining features to be made up June 20, the Huey Bros., Inc. Crate Late Models and the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks before the Mid-Season Championships on June 27 – then the July activities including the Independence Day Celebration at Marion Center Speedway this season with a Demolition Derby and Fireworks plus a Flea Market and Car Cruise!  There will also be a pet parade, Kid’s Demo Derby and at a special starting time of 8 PM the Lias Super Late Models, The W.
