Excitement Starting to Build for Montgomery Super Late Model 150

(Montgomery, AL) -- Earlier this year, Montgomery Motor Speedway (AL) announced there would be a super late model race at the half-mile off of Old Selma Road in Montgomery. The race, scheduled for September 1st and 2nd, is the first super late model race at the track in over two years. The 150-lap spectacle will feature a six-tire rule, and pay $6,000.00 to the winner.

Now, as the date gets closer, excitement starts to build. Entry forms are now available, and entries have begun to come in for the race.

Casey Smith, of Austin, TX is one of the first entries. It has been over 10 years since he competed at Montgomery.

"I haven't raced there since like 2000." Smith said, "We are planning to run a Southern All-Stars race at Senoia, but it rained it out, so and Charlie Bradberry both packed up and headed West to Montgomery to race."

Smith, who is a former champion at both South Alabama Speedway, and Mobile International Speedway, has had some bad luck so far in 2012, and wants to turn that luck around.

"We've been fast just about everywhere, but just had some bad luck. Hopefully we can get it turned around and start with Montgomery."

Super late model racing has seen fewer and fewer events scheduled in the Southeast the past few years. Smith is excited to have a new venue added to the mix.

"It's gotten to where we only have Five Flags Speedway (FL) and Mobile International Speedway (AL) to race, and a couple times as a year we can go to Gresham Motorsports Park (GA), and then to the All-American 400 (Nashville, TN). It's neat to be able to go somewhere different and add another race to the schedule this year. I'm really excited because I haven't been in the car since July 4 at Gresham, and I'm just anxious to get back behind the wheel."

In addition to Smith, Show Me the Money winners Mike Garvey and Augie Grill are among the expected entries, along with Spencer Davis and Donnie Wilson.

Officials announced that the qualifying order for this race will be the reverse order of paid entries, encouraging teams to file their entry blanks early.

Entry forms are available on the track's website at www.MontgomerySpeedway.com.

The weekend begins with an open practice on Friday, August 31. Saturday, September 1 will be practice and qualifying for the Super Late Models, as well as a special 35-lap, $300.00 to win feature for the local Buzz division. Super Stock/Truck, Street Stock, and Mini-Modified divisions will also be on hand Saturday night. Sunday, September 2 will be the main event. The Super Late Models will compete for 150 green-flag laps and a $6,000.00 winner's purse.
