West Jordan Veteran Commemorates Memorial At the Wheel of a Race Car
(5/27/2011)
Darren Jones of West Jordan served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and is currently the Magna VFW Post Commander and District 2 VFW Commander. Jones is highly decorated with honors including a Purple Heart and Silver Star.
Monday, May 30 Jones will be commemorating Memorial Day at Rocky Mountain Raceways; racing in the 125-lap Young Chevrolet 100 on the America First Credit Union Super Oval. “I have raced for ten years. “I raced back east in the NASCAR Winston Racing Series and the NASCAR All Pro Series. I have been racing 3 years with the Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Models.”
“Memorial Day is important to me for many reasons; my family has a history of service to our country going back to my Great Grandfather who fought on the Mexican border Wars in 1916 and then WWI. My Grandfather and Grand Uncles served in WWII. My Uncle in Korea, my Step-Dad in Vietnam and me in Desert Storm,” says Jones.
Rocky Mountain Raceways, with the help of ITT Corporation, will be commemorating Memorial Day by offering all active military and veterans free spectator admission to the Young Chevrolet 100. Accompanying family members will also receive half-price spectator admission. A special opening ceremony will be led by Jones; including representation from all branches of the military.
“I understand the sacrifices that many men and women have made to insure our freedoms. They paid the ultimate sacrifice of giving their lives so that we could do the things in life that we enjoy,” says Jones.
