BETHEL MODIFIEDS LOOK FORWARD TO EXCITING 2011 SEASON

(2/17/2011)

BETHEL, NY – For drivers in the BMS Modified division at Bethel Motor Speedway, Christmas is coming early this year, as the speedway office announced several exciting developments for the division this week.

The BMS Modified class has provided many years of rich racing history at the quarter-mile paved oval, with many talented drivers turning laps in its ranks. One of the pinnacles of recognition came in the early 1990s, when competitor Steve Conklin not only won the track championship, but was also recognized by Area Auto Racing News as the winningest asphalt Modified driver in the Northeast, with 11 wins in 21 starts. Conklin still competes in the class today, collecting one win and finishing in the top five in points in 2010 in spite of running a limited schedule.

It seems only fitting that the class should head into the 51st anniversary season at the speedway with a positive outlook and positive developments.

For the 2011 season, it has been decided that the class will allow both the American Racer G60 and Hoosier IMCA tires for competition. This will enable drivers to compete at the track using the inventory of tires they may already have.

Additionally, BMS Modified drivers who want to visit Bethel and take some laps on the new asphalt that was laid in preparation for the 2011 season can do so for a single event without paying a car/driver entry fee. A coupon for first-time competitors is available online at www.bethelmotorspeedway.com, and can be accessed by using the “Coupon” link at the top of the web page.

“We know there are plenty of drivers out there who have never witnessed first-hand the excitement of racing at Bethel Motor Speedway, and we want to give them the opportunity to see what we have to offer,” stated Bethel’s Business Operations Manager, Tracy Chirico. “Any driver coming in for their first competition in the BMS Modified class can take advantage of the coupon to give the track a ‘test drive’, so to speak. Between the implementation of the coupon and the expansion of the tire rule for the current season, we feel that we have made the speedway as accessible as possible for as many drivers as we can.”

Perhaps the most exciting announcement, however, was that a division sponsor had been secured, as Active Towing and Recovery of Washingtonville, New York, stepped up to the plate to back the class.

“We are happy to welcome Active Towing and Recovery aboard as the division sponsor for one of the longest-standing classes in the history of the speedway, and a division that has contributed so much to the track’s history over the years,” said Chirico.

Active Towing and Recovery provides 24-hour towing, recovery, and roadside services. They provide not only local and long-distance towing, but also services such as lockout service, tire change and repair, jumpstart and battery service, and gas and refueling service. Active Towing and Recovery has a four-truck fleet that includes both flatbeds and a wrecker, and they are equipped to provide vehicle and motorcycle flatbed and winch recovery service.
