Matt began his racing career in 1997. He had been going to the races with his dad since before he could remember. Matt always went to a go kart track where you could rent the karts, and have some fun. That was called Northgate Speedway, and was located in Binghamton, NY. That is where Matt learned to get the "feel" for what vehicle was doing.

He started racing in a Dirt Pro Stock, that his dad had raced for a couple of years. His best finish that year would be a 4th on his first trip up to Thunder Mountain, in Center Lisle, NY. He would race partial seasons up until 2001 when he got his first full season in up at Thunder Mountain. Matt also got his first win, and finished 7th in points in the Pro Stock. He ran the following season in a new home built car up until August, and the motor blew. Matt then moved down to NC with his girlfriend of 4 years at the time, Dawn Ahrens. Dawn also came from a slight racing background. She went to Lebanon Valley Speedway to help out a family friend. Down in NC they couldn't afford a race car, so they were introduced to Oval track karts. Matt started driving in his own equipment for the first time. He picked up his first win in a kart at the end of the summer the following year 2 weeks before he sold it to move back up to NY. Once back up in NY, Matt purchased another kart, and began racing again. He ran his dad's IMCA modified a few times in 2007, and got a couple good finises out of it. 2008 Matt teamed up with Billy and Jake Maynard at MEI Motorsports to run in the new Sportsman Division at Wyalusing Valley Motorsports Park in Wysox, PA. It proved to be a great match as Matt went on to win the Championship in the class with 9 wins on the season. Jake ran the kart in the SportsKids division, and had pretty good success as well with 2 wins, and a 2nd place finish in the standings.

Primary Ride

My current car is a home built car that I myself did about 90% of the work on. My dad and his crew helped some on it also. This is the first car I have ever attempted to build at all. It has a 71 GTO front clip underneath it. Last summer I spent a lot of time researching different chassis, and modeled mine after a few different chassis, plus some of my own ideas. I run a Chevy 355 on gas. I'm under powered  and underfunded compared to many of the front runners in the area, but I make due with what I got.
