80x Motorsport$ SEEKS PARTNERSHIP!! 3rd Generation Sprint car Driver. 2010 will be my 3rd year racing sprint cars. Started my career racing at the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Ia.  Now I travel with the Sprint Invaders around Southeast Iowa and Illinois. Winged Sprint Cars are the only thing I've ever raced.  I just jumped into a sprint car and went, I've never been behind the wheel of any other race car. Winged Sprint car racing is all I've ever known, and hope 2 keep it that way.

CJ Houseman Wins One for Oldtimers at Jacksonville

(Bill W) August 21, 2009 - Though CJ Houseman is one of the up and coming young drivers in sprint car racing, he scored one for the old timers on Friday night at the Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois. The young man who tows to the track on an open trailer as a teammate to his brother, scored his first ever feature victory, as he topped the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders to the tune of $1,200.

The extent of his operation is usually on the track at all times, and CJ Houseman proved that trailers don't win races, by sweeping his heat and the 25-lap feature event. Starting from the pole, he led one lap before his brother, Mike Houseman Jr., who was making his first start since suffering extensive burns at the Knoxville Raceway in July, brought a caution out when the car kicked out of gear. CJ led Justin Parrish, Jordan Goldesberry, Matt Sutton and Dave Feese, who was racing for the second time in 2009 after taking eleven years off.

On lap eight, Goldesberry ducked under Parrish for second, and began his pursuit of the leader. At the halfway point, Sutton had moved into third, with tenth starter, Joey Moughan assuming the fourth position. Sutton and Moughan battled for third, with the latter getting by on lap 17.

One lap later, Matt Rogerson, who started the night 11 points behind series' leader Bobby Mincer, spun in turn one. The last seven laps went non-stop. "I got kind of nervous a couple of times," said CJ of his win. "I thought I might hit the wall. I'm just happy to be here. I would like to thank Cliff and Gina's Runnells Inn for helping me out too. We really could use some more sponsors!

When the white flag came out, the butterflies hit for CJ. He got sideways in one and two and sputtered on the bottom of three and four, but he beat Goldesberry by two car lengths at the checkers. "I about spun out twice that last lap," said the Norwalk, Iowa driver. "The top really slicked off going into one. I definitely held my breath. The car was chugging a little when I was sideways in one and two. I don't know what I would have done if I'd have killed it."

CJ Houseman Sets Pace Early
*CJ Houseman, set the pace in the early going from his pole starting spot. Josh Higday was in pursuit followed by Jimmy Davies, point leader, Matt Rogerson, and Matt Sutton. With five laps in the books, Higday suffered motor problems and shut down the Steve Wares/Vern Harrison sprinter. Davies had moved into second and had been pressuring the leader, but Mincer was in third and ready to pounce ahead of JD Johnson, making his maiden voyage with the series.

The last 19 laps were non-stop. Former series champion Kaley Gharst was able to follow Mincer by Davies to move into the top three. As the laps waned on, and lap traffic became a factor, CJ Houseman and Mincer went at it for the lead in an epic battle. Mincer slid in from of the young driver to lead lap 16, but Houseman came back with a gutsy move on lap 18, causing Mincer to put on the binders and narrowly missing the fence. "It was a good battle…CJ was going good," said Mincer. "I was just trying to narrow the gap coming off the corners. We were even on the straights. I knew he was going to be coming there (lap 18) with a slide-job deal. I was hoping I was far enough to get around him, but I wasn't. Thank goodness I didn't get in the fence. The brakes worked."

Mincer's momentum was slowed, and Gharst got by him for second in Randy Plath's #14P. "The car was really good," said Kaley. "It was working well until a few laps to go. The left front tire went flat and eventually came off."

Houseman led again in an old chassis purchased from Lenard McCarl. Mincer was able to work back by Gharst, and made his winning move on lap 22. "I tried to stay patient (after the slider), and find a spot," said Mincer. "I even thought that when Kaley got by me. I just wanted to make up as much ground as I could."

Gharst would slip by Houseman for second. "I'm really just happy to be here (third)," said CJ. "We've torn up two cars this year at Knoxville, so we were lucky to run third here. I thought I had it for a while, but you can't think that until the checkers come out. It definitely slicked off where we were running up top, but we have no excuses. We'd sure like some names on this car to go with our duct tape numbers though."
