Father' Day Special June 14th, 2014 at Marion Center Speedway

(6/19/2014)

MARION CENTER SPEEDWAY June 14, 2014

Marion Center Speedway was the place to be for Father’s Day Weekend as the track had special admittance fees for the first 48 Fathers through the gate to the grandstand and not only could kids bring Dad to the races but race themselves in the Kid’s Bike Races; plus there was the make up of the rained out May 17, Force Inc. Steel Block Limited Late Model feature.

In the Lias Tire Super Late Model feature Ken Schaltenbrand from Sarver swept the twenty-five lap feature.  Starting on the outside pole position, Schaltenbrand jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag to start the race and never let up as pole sitter Shawn Claar tried to regain his front position throughout the race.  Schaltenbrand never faltered even as he got into slower traffic and the flagman displayed the blue and red diagonal stripe flag showing the slower cars to move over the leader is coming through and only one or two cautions stopped his progress.  At the checkers it was Ken Schaltenbrand advancing to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle with Shawn Claar from Imler close behind in second followed by Dave Blazavich of Marion Center, Clate Copeman of Greensburg and Bryan force from Indiana.  Herman Bertolini of Creighton was next and then the top ten filed in with Andrew Gordon, Dan Boyd, Chad Helman, and Billy Eash.  The rest of the field in order of finish consisted of Rod Phillips, John Myers, Bill Burns, Jim Struble, Dan Swartzlander, and Doug Glessner with Mike Blose not starting the feature.  The Lias Tire Super Late Model heat races were won by Dan Boyd and Bryan Force.

The Force Inc. Steel Block Limited Late Models had two features to run Saturday Night, the first was run right after the track was prepped and a couple heat races secured the clay in place.  Sam Gindlesperger secured his place as the leader from his pole position start to leading the entire twenty lap feature all the way to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle.  Gindlesperger from Johnstown was not as fortunate as Schaltenbrand was to not have many cautions to contend with for his feature run as several cautions backed up his progress and put different competitors on his bumper for restarts.  First it was Kaden Smith, then Scott Stein and at the end it was Bernie Whiteford dogging him for the lead.  But Gindlesperger kept the lead despite all their efforts and took home the checkers.  Whiteford from Hastings was second over Scott Stein of Cherry Tree and Gale Huey from Glen Campbell.  Rounding out the top ten in order were Joe Petyak of Gallitzin; then came Zach Snyder, Levi Sikora, Tom Shaffer, Jeff Weakland and Mike Williams.

The regular night’s program Force Inc. Steel Block Limited Late Model feature had Scott Stein on the pole and Kaden Smith from Hopewell on the outside pole with second row of Joe Petyak and Cheyenne Reed.  When the green flag dropped the battle began.  Stein took the lead with Cheyenne Reed of Punxsutawney moving right in behind him to challenge for the front position.  But Stein wasn’t giving an inch as he maintained the lead for the entire twenty lap feature.  Reed came next for second place followed by Petyak and then Zach Snyder of Mayport and George Dixon, Jr. from Huntington.  Then it was Jeff Weakland, Sam Gindlesperger, Frank Brocious, Tom Shaffer and Gale Huey for your top ten.  The Force Inc. Steel Block Limited Late Model heats were won by Scott Stein and Levi Sikora.

In the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Crate Late Model feature it was Mike Laughard of Twin Rocks going all the way to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle.  Laughard started on the outside pole and held off Jeremy Adamik who was making his 2014 debut at the quarter-mile clay oval, Marion Center Speedway.  Adamik from Leechburg started on the pole but was overtaken by Laughard at the start of the race.  Then came Michael Lauffer from Sidman and Andrew Satterlee of Rochester Mills and Jeremy Shaffer of Derry.  Corey Neal was on hand Saturday night but unable to compete in the feature.  Mike Laughard also won the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Crate Late Model heat race.

Nate Smith of Glen Campbell notched up another victory in the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock feature.  Smith started on the outside pole and led every lap to the finish going once again to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle his third trip so far this season.  Matt Hugill from Mahaffey started on the pole and was running front to mid-field of the feature when he was spun out bringing a caution to the track and making a pit stop.  Brett Bingaman of Cherry Tree was fourth in the lineup and took home second.  Third place went to Ray Hickok, Jr. of Commodore and Eric Lingenfelter from Creekside was fourth with Jim Handyside from Punxsutawney finishing fifth.  The top ten rounded out in the order of Matt Krause, Matt Hugill, Rich Waltman, Gary Furman, Jr. and Bill Mumau.  The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock heat races were won by Nate Smith and Ray Hickok, Jr.

Nick Fulmer of Marion Center held it together this week to claim victory in the Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock feature.  Falling just short of a win last week due to mechanical problems, Fulmer had it all together Saturday night as he dominated the fifteen lap feature.  Starting fourth, Fulmer took the lead on the second lap and led the rest of the way to the checkers which were presented to him by Kid’s Club drawing winner, Brandon Brewer.  Bryant Small of Cherry Tree started on the pole and led the first two laps before Fulmer took control, but then got passed at the end of the race when a caution backed things up and he didn’t get a good restart.  At the checkers it was Nick Fulmer followed by Ben Krause of Morann, Gary Stitt from Deckers Point, Bryant Small, and Chris Hickok from Commodore.  Then came Jim Hamilton followed by daughter Kylie Hamilton (it was good of her to let Dad go first since it was Father’s Day) and Jim Hixson, Ryan Caldwell and Zeke Quick.  The Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock heat races were won by Chris Hickok and Nick Fulmer.

Congratulations to all the Kid’s Bike Race winners. The Kid’s Bike Races held at intermission were sponsored by Mike’s Towing of Clymer where everyone is a winner.  Also Congratulations to the Kid’s Club drawing winner, Brandon Brewer who got to present the checkered flag to Nick Fulmer winner of the Strictly Stock feature.  Coming up for the Kid’s Club members is a coloring contest.
