DALTON ZEHR CLAIMS FIRST LEG OF YELLOW RIVER RACING SERIES! VOLM, WEINFURTER, MALOUF, AND HUDSON EARN FEATURE WINS!

(5/24/2014)

Marshfield, WI, (May 24, 2014) – Race fans enjoyed a great night of racing action Saturday night at Marshfield Motor Speedway, as they sat back in their chairs and enjoyed the first leg of the Yellow River Racing Series, presented by Earth, Inc.

Appleton’s Cory Kemkes earned his first career Fast Time honor in the Super Late Model division.  Kemkes tripped the clock at 18.083 seconds.  Steven Point, WI driver Ryan Hinner put his familiar #23 hot rod in victory lane in the Napa of Marshfield Dash 4 Cash!  Heat winners tonight were Nick Murgic and Ryan Hinner.

Minnesota ace driver Nick Murgic grabbed the early lead from his pole starting position.  Murgic, a third generation driver, fought off challenges from Kris Kelly throughout the first 20-laps of the 100 lap event.  Port Orange, Florida driver Dalton Zehr, grabbed the second position from Kelly, and set his sights on a very fast Nick Murgic.  Murgic and Zehr battled each other for ten laps, with Murgic finally giving way to Zehr on lap 30.  Bangor’s Steve Holzhausen worked his way to the third position with passes of Jordan Thiel, Ryan Hinner, and Chris Kelly.  On lap 43, Holzhausen was able to move his Ford past Murgic as the two drivers roared down the backstretch. Holzhausen was noticeably closing the gap on leader Zehr.  The two drivers raced several laps side by side, and on lap 51, it was Holzhausen moving to the top spot!  Zehr stuck his nose in on Holzhausen numerous times and wasn’t about to settle for second place.  Steve Holzhausen, whom of which was a crowd favorite, set the pace for the next 20 laps.  Holzhausen began to falter slightly and Zehr was beginning to real the leader in.  Two laps later, it was Florida’s Zehr grabbing the lead away from Holzhausen.  As Zehr passed Holzhausen for the race lead, it was Claire Decker grabbing a podium spot away from Murgic, as the Eagle River, WI driver started moving forward.  Once Dalton Zehr re-passed Holzhausen  for the race lead, he cruised to the victory in the first leg of the Yellow River Racing Series.  Holzhausen, last year’s series champion, had all he could do to hold off a hard charging Claire Decker for the runner up position.  With Decker racing her way to a third place finish, it was Nick Murgic and Jordan Thiel rounding out the top five!

Once the Pure Stocks took to the track for their feature race, it was Nekoosa, WI driver Jake Capek grabbing the early lead.  Capek’s lead was brief however, as Mosinee, WI driver Travis Volm took over the helm. Kyle Genett would take over the lead for several laps as Volm and Genett battled side by side.  However, it was Volm passing Genett with 12 laps remaining, and holding off the field for the 20-lap feature win.  Kyle Genett finished second with Karl Genett coming home third.  Nick Erickson, Jr., Jake Capek, and Dave Lashua rounded out the top 6 finishing order.

It was another great turn out of cars in the X-Treme 4′s division of racing.  Auburndale, WI driver Tim Anderson got back on track tonight to earn top honors in qualifying.  Minnesota driver Dave Auringer and Steve Hauser took home checkered flags in their respective heats.

Chuck Dixon led the first few laps of the feature, but it was Phil Malouf taking over the top spot from his seventh starting spot by lap three.  Malouf would lead until Adam Eckes grabbed the lead on lap 10. Eckes would lead for several laps until it was apparent something broke in his right front sending him over the turn two dirt embankment.  Eckes would also have his engine expire, putting him in the pit area for the remainder of the evening.  Phil Malouf would once again take over the top spot.  This time, Malouf would keep the lead for good as the Manitowash Waters, WI driver would go on for the race win.  Steve Hauser, Derk Hauser, Rick Brandl, and Tim Anderson would round out the top five.

With the Bandits back in for another night of racing action, it was on everyone’s mind if Sophomore sensation Dillon Mackesy could keep his strong hold of cars throughout Central Wisconsin.  Mackesy, who is the current point leader in the Bandit Division, continued his winning ways as he won fast time honors.  Wausau, WI driver Dave Meyer powered his car to a heat win.

In feature action, it was Brandon Polansky grabbing the lead once starter Geno Eckes threw the green flag, indicating the start of the race.  On lap 4, it was Eau Claire, WI driver Brian Hudson grabbing the lead.  Hudson had all he could do to hold of a hard charging Mackesy in the closing laps.  Dave Meyer put on quite a show as well. The Wausau, WI driver charged hard to the front, but needed a few more laps to get to Hudson for the win.  Tonight, it was Brian Hudson earning a  hard fought feature win.
