Three In A Row for Lavoie

(5/28/2011)

John Lavoie and Bill Kimball may have to square off in a head-to-head grudge race if either is to finish out of the winner's circle this summer at Monadnock Speedway. Both won to stay perfect on the young season May 28 at New England's fastest quarter-mile oval.

Lavoie stormed to his third Super Stock win in as many outings, while Kimball ran his streak to two-for-two at the high-banked speedplant. Not far from perfect herself, Kim Rivet blistered the blacktop to score her second straight Mini Stock feature win and third top-three finish.

Hillary Renaud earned her first victory lap of the season, topping a deep field of Young Guns, while Barry Schonborg also scored his first win of the summer, acing the Thunder Stock 50-lapper, and hometown hot shoe Gordon Farnum devoured the rest of the field en route to his career-first Lightning Stock victory.

In the Sportsman Modified main, it was rookie Joey Kendall grabbing the early lead, and riding at the point for the first dozen circuits. With the lead pack rubbing through turns three and four, Kyle Poodiack had the lead the next trip around, with Nick Boivin claiming the deuce spot two laps later, and Russ Hersey coming fast in fourth after starting scratch on the field.  Kimball was charging through traffic too, and when the first caution of the race was waved on lap 20, the Bennington Bullet quickly pounced on the lead and never looked back. Contact on the front chute would cause Hersey and Boivin to refire from the back of the field, but both were up the challenge, with Hersey blistering the asphalt to claim second on a lap-26 restart, and Boivin snatching third from Kendall on the same lap. Kimball, though, would not be denied, leading Hersey under the checkers in a nose-to-tail finish, with Boivin a half-dozen lengths back in third. Kendall finished his strong night's work in fourth, with Poodiack recovering from a mid-race spin to come home fifth.

In the Super Stock main, Kevin Oullette grabbed the opening lead and held the point the first 11 circuits in the fast paced green-to-checkers event. Lavoie, though, had what was clearly the hot setup again, moving up from his third row starting position to reel in Oullette and then drive away from the field.Brian Chapin would turn in another strong outing, finding the fast line around Oullette to claim second, with defending track champ Bill Johnston coming home fourth on the night to stay number two in the points race. Jason LaFleur claimed the five spot.

Chris Davis had held Rivet in his shadow to win their earlier heat race, but he couldn't stop her march to the front in the night's 25-lap Mini Stock feature. Davis, though, had the rest of the field covered, pulling down a potent second, just ahead of opening night winner Eric Dejackome. Joe Rogers finished his strong night's work in fourth, just ahead of Joe Boivin.

With Renaud winning her first of the season in the Young Guns 15-lap event, JT Cloutier claimed the deuce spot, his second runner-up finish in three events and a great finish by Ryan Shaw who came in third.
