POCOLA, OK (June 24th, 2017) – The eighth points race of the season at the legendary Tri-State Speedway was met with almost identical conditions as the previous week with temps in the mid-80’s and a light southerly breeze at times. As a result, the fans and drivers were able to enjoy a nice late-June evening at the facility in Pocola, Oklahoma. The night also featured added money in the USRA B-Mods, IMCA Modifieds and the USRA Modifieds which was provided by Crey Hoover Land and Cattle Company. Fans were also treated to a little pre-4th of July fireworks during the opening ceremonies and at the start of each of the five A Features.
The pre-race ceremonies started at 8:00 PM with the invocation and the National Anthem for the drivers and fans while Chad Wheeler and Tate Cole presented the nation’s colors with a few parade laps highlighted by some fireworks over the back straight.
Heat race lineups for all classes, except the IMCA Modifieds, were determined by the driver’s draw at sign in. The IMCA Modifieds followed the published rules for that class, which utilizes the driver’s point average for starting positions. The classes, that drew for their starting heat position, advanced to their features via their finish in their heats. Plus, the last heat winner in each class, other than IMCA Modifieds, drew a number for the number of cars to invert for the A Feature.
At intermission, everyone had a chance to grab themselves some of the great food items from the concession stand including some walking tacos, fried bologna sandwiches and a world-famous Tommy burger along with an ice-cold Coca-Cola product to wash it all down.
The first race on the track after intermission was the USRA B-Mod A Feature paying $400 to win where Daniel Tarkington (2 – Checotah, OK) returned to Victory Lane for the second time this season by taking the win over Dean Green (28 - Springdale, AR) and Lonny Flanagan (7 - Rudy, AR).
Next was the Pure Stock A Feature that saw Wesley Bourne (5 – Cameron, OK) win for the fourth time this season. Jacob Cox (99 - Pocola, OK) crossed the line second ahead of JR Owen (79 – Pocola, OK) as they prepare for the big 40 lap, $400 to start, $4,000 to win event on June 29, 30 and July 1st.
The next A Feature was for the IMCA Modifieds. Drew Armstrong (01A – Alexandria, AR) returned to Victory Lane for his second win of the season. Kayden Menasco (49 – Muldrow, OK) finished in second and H. Palmer (X15 – Muldrow, OK) crossed the line in third.
Next up was the Super Stock A Feature where Gean Davlin (26 – Shady Point, OK) captured the checkered flag for the first time this season. Last week’s winner, Kyle Slader (19S – Muskogee, OK) crossed the line in second ahead of Dylan Davlin (26 – Shady Point, OK).
The USRA Modifieds took to the high banks last for their A Feature. Brent Holman (17 – Rogers, AR) took home his first win of the 2017 season after a few runner up positions. Early race leaser Chad Wheeler (88 – Muskogee, OK) took home second place over teammate Tate Cole (89 – Fort Gibson, OK).
