Great Clips - Murphy Tractor & Equipment - City of Park City, Ks. World of Outlaws "Kansas Klassic" Update

(4/4/2017)

PARK CITY, Kan. — April 4, 2017 — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returns to 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., in just over four weeks on Saturday, May 6 for the running of the Kansas Outlaw Klassic presented by Great Clips, Murphy Tractor & Equipment and the City of Park City, Kansas. The event will mark the first time the Outlaws have raced at 81 Speedway since 2006. Currently, the Outlaws are in the midst of wrapping up their annual early-season West Coast Swing.

Last week, David Gravel picked up a pair of wins in the three races that were contested. The rising star was victorious at Placerville Speedway in California on March 29 and followed that up with another win on April 1 at Perris Auto Speedway, also in the Golden State. The Connecticut native now has three wins on the year, which is second only to eight-time and defending series champion Donny Schatz.

Schatz started the 2017 season on a roll, picking up wins in five of the first six races, including two in one-day in Florida, after inclement weather led to a day/night doubleheader. Schatz also earned a win in Texas and was victorious on both nights in Las Vegas. The North Dakota native won in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series last visit to 81 Speedway over a decade ago.

Jason Johnson won on opening night in Florida, back in February, while Logan Schuchart picked up his first win of the season last weekend in California in a thriller at Kings Speedway. Schuchart took the lead coming to the white flag to snag the win from Ian Madsen, who had led a majority of the 35-lap race. Brad Sweet also picked up a win in his home state of California, a couple of weeks ago.

In the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series standings, Schatz holds a 70-point advantage over Gravel. Sweet is currently third, followed by Madsen in fourth and Daryn Pittman in fifth. Shane Stewart sits sixth in the standings, with Johnson seventh, rookie Sheldon Haudenschild eighth, Schuchart ninth, while veteran drivers Joey Saldana and Paul McMahan are tied for 10th. A total of 16 drivers are following the series full-time in 2017.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series heads to Arizona this weekend for a pair of races to conclude the West Coast Swing.
