NC Speedway Coming Back From The "Dead", Town Hall Meeting Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25th

(10/22/2014)

Some may remember the above as Southern Thunder Speedway from long ago.  It was in Taylorsville, NC and after being shuttered for more than 10 years, it's being brough back from the dead by Mike Budka, Jr. and his wife!

Here's a rundown from Mike about the status of the track and the plans going forward:

Race fans, Let me take a moment here to see if I can answer some questions.

One question most of all is is this track going to be ready for next year? Well, we are doing everything we can possibly do to make our goal be on time as we have projected.  Yes, there are concerns as to the condition of the track itself.  Here are the facts about that question and concern.  Yes, there is NO secret that the track has been shut down for 10 years and when we first looked at the track there was massive amounts of over-grow and scrub weed and more.  But, thare are ongoing days with folks that we have coming there and setting a schedule for work on the actual track itself.  Before we could actually do any work there we had to get aerial and ground surveys as to where the actual boundaries and location points of the land and property to stay in compliance with zoning laws and property lines.

So, to the many inquires that we have received, I hope this will answer some of the questions as to why we have not yet gotten the machines on the track surface.  Actual rough-cut grading was done on Saturday.

Now, as far as other concerns, Yes, there are several more issues that have occurred over time and progress is started to get some of those areas addressed as soon as we could.

We will be having a "Town Hall" type meeting Saturday Oct. 25th at 10AM at the Ellendale Vol. Fire Dept.  At that time we will outline our plans.  Check us out on Facebook.  Thank you for your support we seriously do appreciate everyone's input....MB
